Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a question not listed here? Ask us at .

Do I have to charge my credit card every time I donate?

No. Goldhat has a bulk payment system where patrons can order, say, $10.00 of Goldhat credit in advance. Once your credit card charge is authorized, this $10.00 is credited directly to your Goldhat account. You are then free to distribute this Goldhat credit to any other user. You can access the Goldhat credit order form here.

So I can donate anywhere from $0.01 to $10.00 of Goldhat credit without having to charge my card?

Yes.

So what if I receive $100.00 in donations from Goldhat patrons. How do I get my money?

Go to your user profile, and click "Cash In" where your account information is displayed. All you have to do is then enter the information for the debit or credit card that you want that $100.00 credited to.

How can I be assured that my orders will be processed securely?

Orders are sent through a secure order form with 256-bit layer encryption. Also, credit card information is not stored directly on our database, but rather sent directly to Authorize.net, a payment gateway that specializes in secure online financial transactions.

Will using Goldhat cost me money?

No. As a non-profit, Goldhat does not charge for its services. Users are encouraged but not required to make donations to help keep the site going.

Do you guys take a cut of each donation?

No. If you're a patron, we want to make sure that as much money as possible goes directly to the artist you want to support so we do not take a cut of any donation.

So how do you guys make money?

When you add credit to your Goldhat account you have the option of donating %5 of your order amount to help support Goldhat's operations. We are working on other ways of generating revenue from the site, but this will be the main revenue stream for now.

Are my donations to artists tax deductible?

In some cases, yes. In order for a donation to be tax deductible, it must be made to a registered 501c3 charitable organization. Since most artists are not charities but mini-businesses, the donations you make to them are not tax deductable.

Are my donations to Goldhat.org tax deductible?

Not at the moment, no. We're still working on getting our organization registered as a 501c3 charitable organization.
